“What do you want with us Son of God? They shouted. “Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?” Matthew 8:29
I have been struggling with this particular topic for a while, so I figured I should share what I have found out with all you guys and gals. Nightmares frequent my dreams and every time I wake up, I find myself scared to death of every little noise I hear. Having a lamp on doesn’t always help, for it is just “artificial” light. Not the Light I need to conquer the night. I have gone too long with not looking up in my Bible the subject of demons, so, here goes. I found the verse above in Matthew. Even the demons believed that Jesus was Son of God, as James said in James 2:19, “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that- and shudder.” The demons that haunt us know that Jesus is Son of God, they know the power of God, and even they, the very essence of fear, have fear. I have recently heard this riveting account of my youth pastor’s father. She was telling me that her father was a warlock before he came to Christ. He was in bed one night when he heard the lock on his back door click open and the door was opened. He heard what sounded like dog nails on a floor walk across his kitchen and down the hallway right into his room. At this point, he had his head under the pillow, he thought he ought to take a deep breath and pounce on this intruder. When he flipped out from under his covers, he saw a seven-foot tall demon with glowing red eyes standing there at the end of his bed. Her father muttered “Jesus” at the sight of this creature, and the demon ran away. In the morning, after a night with every loud and bright appliance on, he risked wandering out to the kitchen. There, he found a bible, which he assumed one of his friends must have left the day before. The bible was open to Deuteronomy, the particular verse he saw was Deut. 18:10-11, “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, (11) or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead.” This man came to be strong with God and his word.
So, when we feel we are being attacked by the devil and are fearful of what is to come, remember that seeing, or being aware, of such horrors is what can eventually bring us closer to God. We need His help to make it through rough times, whether it be the dark or the physical demon that you are haunted by, God can get us through to the other side.
